Frequently Asked Questions
1. What can I expect in a financial planning session?
If you have purchased a comprehensive planning package the first session is entirely about collecting information. We’ll look at your expenses and income and discuss your goals. This session usually lasts between 1 ½ and 2 hours.
All follow-up sessions are based on what your goals are and how far you have progressed since the prior session. Though we have some specific points to cover, if you have questions or concerns they will take precedence. These sessions can last anywhere from ½ hour to an hour.
For specific planning sessions, you can expect a discussion about your goals, some data collection and a plan before you leave the office. These sessions can last from 45 minutes to 1½ hours.
2. What if I just want help with making a budget?
Then consider looking at the specific planning session for budget building. It’s all about building a household budget and can even be done over the phone.
3. How about retirement?
Retirement is a little more in-depth. There is a specific planning session that is actually 2 sessions, the first for information collection—like your current income level, the income you’d like in retirement and your current level of savings, if any. You’ll come back in a second session after some number crunching with a plan for how to move forward. I’ll give you several options and you can figure out which one you are most comfortable with.
4. What if I want help for something that isn’t listed in a package or a specific planning session?
Then send an email! Planning sessions are priced based on the complexity of the financial situation and the amount of time needed to do them. The base rate is $80 an hour and a quote can be easily drawn up for your specific needs.
5. What if I can’t pay the amount I’ve been quoted for?
There are payment plans available. You can pay in 1-5 payments. If you pay in more than 1 payment a premium will be added that will raise the overall price, however the payments become lower the more payments you have. We will look at your overall budget and can determine which payment plan (if any) is best for you.
6. How much personal information do I have to tell you?
It depends. If you’re doing a specific planning session, very little may be necessary. Comprehensive packages obviously require more and we’ll cover topics like your goals, your debts, and discuss plans to make sure you’re covered in case of catastrophes both to yourself and any dependants you may have or people you may be dependant on.
Financial discussions can get very personal, but everything you disclose is kept in very strict confidence and is only shared with those you authorize.
